A Writer’s Life: Resist the Lazy

I think I’ve mentioned it before, but I have a day job. I’m a software engineer for a small company that deals with insurance. That means that at the end of the year, our customers are scrambling to get their 2022 plans in place before 2022 rears it’s ugly head.

That means that I’m really busy for the last two months of the year. Yes, that included NaNoWriMo November. It means that my week in Iowa included some working. That means that up until 1/15/2022, I’m going to be working more than normal.

That leaves me less time to get the new outline done for The Irish Project. But that doesn’t mean I’m not going to try.

It would be pretty easy to say “Oh, cut yourself a break until year end is over.” I’ve said that to myself before. But I’m resisting that urge this year. Because for me, it ends up being partially legit, and partially an excuse to slack off and be lazy.

2022: Resist Avoidance

Avoidance of any task is often based in fear. At least, it is for me.

So this year, avoidance is off the table. It’s going to take a lot of work for me to resist falling into that trap, but I’m going to give it my best.

My book is not Schrodinger's Cat.
